The Sens will likely take Tkachuk at 4th, because Dahlin, Svechnikov and Zadina will be selected in the top-3. Tkachuk will become a good player but he's not ready yet to make the jump to the NHL. I agree except about the part of him playing in BU. Brady turns 19 in september. Like Mathews, had he been born a few days earlier he was eligible for the draft 1 year before.

That said I don't expect him to come in and win the Calder.

The main issue isn't even the draft, it's Erik Karlsson. What will the Sens offer him on a 8 year deal? What will he say and how will it go down? Why or Why not did this happen? .........all of these questions will be answered in 60 days or so and to add to that IF he is traded what will they get in return? The return has to massive or there will be an even bigger reaction from fans; I'd be surprised if there wasn't

Honestly, Melnik plain SUCKS! I know that everyone knows it, but it's really annoying. What can be such an AMAZING hockey city getting burnt because of a poopty owner. It's like the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NHL.

Karlsson will say NO to whatever is offered and then should be traded to Vancouver for Juolevi and the #7 overall

If Melnyk/Dorin don't plan on resigning EK (and I don't mean some ridiculous lowball offer to convince the fans they "tried"), they may as well let Colorado have the pick.

Without EK, and without adding an impact player, odds are they will be back in the same spot next year.

I've seen a lot of speculation, that the Canes want to "get tougher", or other speculation that Montreal wont take one of the top 2 wingers.

To me, this is not realistic behavior. I would be very surprised if either of those two don't get taken. All reports seem to indicate they are a step above the other prospects here.

We need to be realistic, and expect Tkachuck, which could be a very good thing, if he's anything like his brother.

Or Bouchard even. But I think they take the winger.

You would be stupid to give away a #4 overall pick. There is no guarantee you will pick that high next year and it could end up being much lower.

Exactly. At least take the top 5 pick that's in front of you. Next year's a new season, and so much can happen in between.

4th is good . Being at the bottom of the pile still sucks,dont want to turn into sabres or oilers

The title of this post is pretty telling... the Senators didn't really "fall" to the 4th pick, because they were never guaranteed anything but a top-5 pick when they finished with the 2nd worst record in the league. To have thought otherwise was pretty foolish, and the perception of some that picking 4th is evidence of some kind of bad luck quite frankly illustrates the "victim" mentality or at least "glass-half-empty" attitude some people seem to have about the team right now. Regardless of who they would have picked at #2 vs. #4, there's virtually no chance that would even come close to accounting for the difference between last year's team performance and where this team needs to be to return to competing for a playoff spot. But they should get a very good player at #4, who should be a big part of turning the ship around going forward as the team brings more of its quality young prospects into the fold.

Life possibly without EK may not be that dramatic . May even bring a big basket of fruit back that could immediately turn this ship around quickly. In that case next years pick could be 15-25 . Now keeping EK we could very well expect the same results as this year,as there wont be much resources to fill out depth.

Agree with previous post, in that Sens did exactly 'fall' to number 2. However, most predictions have the swede, the russian and the czech as can't miss picks, whereas reaction is mixed the rest of the way on the remaining prospects (including Tzacuk). That is why I am feeling dissappointed.

All that sounds good,except i do believe they will require 2 nhl'ers right now as well.One that is pretty good and a depth nhl'er.

I would think it is perfectly reasonable for people to not be super pumped about ending up in almost the worst draft spot that OTT could have, would you not think that CAR and MTL fans are pumped and feeling slightly 'lucky" to have moved up? OTT fans feeling a bit unlucky to have moved down is normal (and expected I would guess)

Not "IF" he is traded, when.....But you guys should fetch a nice return. Bobby Ryan was told he and Karlsson were traded to a team in the west, which fell through before the deadline. My guess, they are in Vegas next season, you guys have a quality young group in exchange, and a ton of cap space.

He will be playing in the NHL next season. If its me I take him and play him in the top 9 next season. He has for offense than his bro.

I agree.
Karlsson will be 29 at the end of his current contract. He is currently at peak performance and the most reasonable expectation is that he has 3-4 dominant years from there. He is best suited for a team that can win now.
A reasonable offer is 8 x $10M, which would make him the highest paid defenceman in the league.

I think Ottawa likely looks very different next season. Dutch re-signs and sticks around, either new coach or if Boucher stays Hoffman is moved for pieces, due to Melnyk I can see EK gone and that brings in more pieces. Add in who they take 4th overall, who may or may not make the team right away, and it will be an interesting but tough year.
